The prototype

From idea to experience.

The Mind Matters prototype is an approximately two-hour workshop combining presentation-based learning, worksheets, games and practical activities.

What's been built so far.

The workshop exists as a complete, deliverable session — a presentation, a set of activities and games, worksheets, and facilitated discussion built around realistic conflict scenarios.

Everything below is drawn from the actual prototype. Where materials haven't been published on this site yet, we've left a clearly marked placeholder rather than showing a stand-in image.

Presentation

Workshop slides

Slides frame each concept briefly, then students move into activity. The website's visual identity is drawn from this presentation design.

Mind Matters title slide reading ‘Emotions and Conflict’, with colourful 3D-style characters, a purple star, a teal spiral and a pink squiggle on a white background.
Title slide — “Emotions and Conflict”. The colours, organic shapes and character illustrations here form the basis of the Mind Matters visual identity.
Slide titled ‘Steps for regulating emotions’, showing step one, stop and breathe, with a four-second box-breathing diagram: inhale, hold, exhale and hold, each to a count of four.
Regulating emotions — stop and breathe, using a four-second breathing cycle.
Slide titled ‘Can you match the cards?’, pairing conflict situations such as a friend interrupting with calm responses such as ‘Can you please let me finish speaking?’
Match the cards — pairing a situation with a calm, respectful response.
Slide titled ‘Communication and conflict game’, asking what to do when two friends want the same toy, with the correct answer ‘Listen and take turns’ highlighted.
Communication & conflict game — a choice-based activity with discussion.

Student materials

Worksheets & printable activities

Students work through these during the session, and take them home afterwards.

Worksheet titled ‘How Am I Feeling Activity’, asking students to name an emotion from a face, describe when they might feel that way, tick strategies that could help, and draw a time they felt it.
How Am I Feeling — naming an emotion, when it shows up, and what helps.
Worksheet titled ‘Communication Challenge’, where students choose a situation, write what they could say using calm words, and tick a good-communication checklist.
Communication Challenge — practising calm words with a partner.
Worksheet titled ‘Conflict Detective’, where students read a situation about two people wanting to be first in line and answer what the problem is, how each person feels, what each could say calmly, and one fair solution.
Conflict Detective — working a real scenario through to a fair solution.
Printable matching cards: green cards describing conflict situations paired with white cards showing calm responses such as ‘Can we take turns?’ and ‘That hurt my feelings. Please don’t say that.’
Matching cards — the printable card set used in the matching activity.
